An impact entry door in Cape Coral typically costs $2,800–$5,500 installed, rising to $4,500–$9,000 with sidelights, and a pair of impact French doors runs about $5,000–$9,500. Each is tested as a complete unit, slab, frame and glass together, and permitted like a window.

Why the front door matters in a storm

Doors are big openings with a lot of surface for wind to push on, and many older Cape homes still have the original hollow or lightly built entry door with a decorative glass insert. An impact-rated door is tested as a whole assembly: the slab, the frame, the hinges, the locks and any glass. If one of those fails in a storm, the rest don’t matter. That is why we never fit an impact slab into an old frame.

Door types we install

Impact front doors

Fiberglass slabs are the usual choice: they don’t rot, dent or swell in the humidity, and they can be smooth or wood-grain and painted or stained. Glass inserts are laminated impact glass, clear, frosted or decorative.

Sidelights and transoms

Narrow glass panels beside or above the door brighten the entry. They are part of the tested unit, so they come with the door rather than being added later.

French doors

Hinged pairs onto a pool deck or lanai, in-swing or out-swing. Out-swing doors resist wind pressure well because the wind pushes them into the frame, but they need clear space outside to open. We’ll talk through which suits your opening at the measure.

Matched to the windows

Frame color, hardware finish and glass tint are chosen alongside the windows, so the front of the house reads as one job. If you are already planning impact windows, adding the doors to the same permit saves a second inspection, and the wind-mitigation form looks at every opening, doors included.

Entry and French door questions

Can you put an impact door in my existing frame?

No. Impact doors are tested as complete units, so the frame, slab and hardware are replaced together to keep the rating.

Fiberglass or aluminum for a front door?

Fiberglass for most homes: it insulates, holds paint and looks like wood if you want it to. Aluminum suits modern glass-heavy entries.

Do impact doors need a permit in Cape Coral?

Yes, the same as windows. We include the door in the permit and the final inspection.

Can I keep a glass insert in an impact door?

Yes. Inserts are laminated impact glass and come clear, frosted or decorative.
