Sliding Glass Door Repair & Replacement in Cape Coral

A slider that grinds, jumps the track or takes two hands to open usually needs new rollers, not a new door. When it does need replacing, we fit impact sliders built for the lanai.

Most sliding glass doors in Cape Coral that drag or stick need new rollers and a cleaned or capped track, which typically costs $250–$600. A full impact slider replacement runs about $3,500–$7,000 for two panels, and is worth it when the frame is corroded or the door has no storm rating.

Why Cape sliders wear out

A lanai slider is opened more than any window in the house, and it lives with sand, pool chemicals and salt air at floor level. Roller wheels flatten, bearings rust, and the aluminum track gets pitted until the door rides on metal instead of wheels. The panel is heavy, so once it starts grinding the wear speeds up.

Slider repairs we do

  • Roller replacement. Panels come out, old rollers are swapped for stainless or sealed-bearing units, and the height is adjusted so the door glides and locks.
  • Track repair. Pitted or bent tracks are cleaned and dressed, or covered with a stainless track cap so new rollers have a smooth surface.
  • Locks and handles. Loose handles and locks that no longer catch are replaced and the keeper realigned.
  • Glass. Fogged or cracked panes are replaced in the existing panel, standard or impact.
  • Weatherstripping. Worn pile and seals are renewed to stop drafts, bugs and wind-driven rain.

When a new slider makes more sense

Replace rather than repair when the frame is corroded through, the panels are single glazed, or the door is the only unprotected opening in an otherwise impact-rated house. A new impact slider closes that gap. Options run from standard two-panel doors to three- and four-panel units and pocketing walls that tuck into the wall to open the lanai completely.

Large sliders carry big wind loads, and those facing open canal or bay frontage often need higher design pressures than the windows beside them. We size each door to its rating and file it with the city permit, the same way as our impact windows.

Sliding glass door questions

Why is my sliding glass door so hard to open?

Almost always worn rollers or a damaged track. Once the wheels flatten, the panel drags on the track. New rollers and a cleaned or capped track usually fix it.

Can you replace sliding door rollers without replacing the door?

Yes. The panels come out, the rollers are swapped and adjusted, and the panels go back in, usually in one visit.

Do I need a permit to replace a sliding glass door?

Replacing the door needs a City of Cape Coral permit, which we handle. Roller and track repairs don’t.

Are impact sliding doors heavier to open?

The panels are heavier, but on good rollers and a clean track they still open with one hand.
