In Lehigh Acres the most common job is replacing builder-grade windows with impact glass so the storm panels can stay in the garage for good. A standard impact window typically costs $900–$1,800 installed, and because Lehigh is unincorporated, the permit goes through Lee County, which we file for you.

A different kind of house from the Cape
Lehigh Acres was laid out in the 1950s as a vast grid of residential lots, and most of its houses were built much later, many in the 2000s building boom and plenty in the last decade. That means fewer corroded aluminum originals than in older parts of Cape Coral, and far more single-story concrete-block homes with builder-grade windows and a stack of metal or polycarbonate panels for storm season.
Those windows usually still open and close fine. The reason owners call us is the panels: heavy, sharp-edged, numbered in marker, and needing a ladder and a free afternoon every time a storm looks likely. Impact glass ends that routine.
Inland doesn’t mean low wind
Being 20-odd miles from the Gulf takes most of the storm-surge risk away, but not the wind. Lee County’s building rules treat Lehigh homes as being in the wind-borne debris region just like the coast, so replaced openings still need impact glazing or approved protection. Hurricane Ian brought damaging winds well inland in 2022, and Lehigh saw roof and window damage of its own.
What a typical Lehigh job looks like
Most homes here have 12 to 18 openings: single-hung bedroom windows, a kitchen slider or two, a front door and often a sliding glass door to a rear patio. Quoting them together on one Lee County permit is cheaper per opening and leaves no weak point for the wind-mitigation inspector to record. We measure each one, list the product and approval for each opening, and schedule the install in one run.
If budget means phasing it, we suggest starting with the largest openings, the sliders and the front door, because they are the hardest to protect with panels. See sliding glass doors and entry doors.

Lehigh Acres window questions
Who issues window permits in Lehigh Acres?
Lee County, because Lehigh Acres is unincorporated. We prepare and file the application and book the inspection.
Can I keep my storm panels instead of buying impact windows?
Yes, approved panels are a legal form of protection. Impact glass costs more up front but removes the work and protects the house when you’re away.
How far is Lehigh Acres from you?
About half an hour from the Cape across Fort Myers, and part of our regular service area.
